Privacy Policy - SNOWYYC

A LEGAL DISCLAIMER

This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information in compliance with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where applicable, Canada’s PIPEDA. It’s written for a small service business offering residential and light commercial snow removal. 
1) Who we are & how to contact us

2) What personal information we collect

  • Contact & identity: name, phone, email.

  • Service location: street address, city, postal code; optional notes (gate codes, access instructions).

  • Geographic data: address validation results and approximate location data from Google Maps/Places APIs if you use our address lookup.

  • Account & transaction data: services selected, add-ons, plan type (monthly/season), dates of service, pricing, invoices, payment status.

  • Payment details: handled by our payment processor. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.

  • Communications: emails, SMS, and photo proof we send/receive (including timestamps).

  • Website/app data: pages viewed, form submissions, IP address, cookies, device/browser info, and ad/analytics identifiers (e.g., Meta Pixel, Google Analytics).

Optional/edge cases: photos of completed work (driveway/sidewalk), which may incidentally include vehicles or portions of the home exterior. We avoid capturing people whenever possible.
3) Why we collect it (purposes)
We collect, use, and disclose information only for reasonable purposes, including:

  • Provide services: schedule and perform snow/ice removal, route planning, photo proof.

  • Payments & billing: process payments, issue invoices/receipts, handle refunds/chargebacks.

  • Customer support: respond to inquiries, send service ETAs and updates, manage requests.

  • Safety & compliance: document service timing for bylaw/contract purposes; manage risk.

  • Marketing (optional): send service offers, season reminders, referral promotions (you can opt out).

  • Analytics & improvement: measure site performance and ad effectiveness; reduce fraud/abuse.

  • Legal & records: meet tax, accounting, and legal obligations.

4) Your consent & choices

  • By using our site or services, you consent to the collection and use of your information for the purposes above.

  • You can withdraw consent to marketing at any time (unsubscribe links or email us).

  • If you disable certain cookies or refuse to share address info, some features (e.g., service-area validation) may not work.

5) Sharing your information
We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only with:

  • Service providers (processors) who help us operate: hosting, payment processing, email/SMS, mapping, analytics, customer support.

  • Professional advisers (accountants, insurers, legal counsel) as reasonably required.

  • Law enforcement/regulators if required by law or to protect our rights or safety.

  • Business transfers: if we sell or reorganize our business, your information may be part of the transaction (subject to applicable law).

Some providers may be outside Canada (e.g., U.S.). Your data may be processed in those countries and subject to their laws. We use contracts and safeguards appropriate for PIPA/PIPEDA.
6) Cookies, pixels, and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to run the site, remember preferences, analyze usage, and measure ads (e.g., Meta Pixel, Google Analytics). You can manage cookies in your browser settings. Where required, we will present a cookie notice/controls.
7) Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, including:

  • Customer & billing records: typically up to 7 years (tax/audit).

  • Operational logs & photos: typically 12–24 months unless needed longer for safety, disputes, or legal reasons.
    When no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize data.

8) Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards: limited access, encryption in transit, secure payment processors, staff training, and audit logs. No method is 100% secure; please notify us promptly if you suspect an issue.
9) Your rights (Access, correction, deletion)
Under PIPA, you may:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you.

  • Request corrections for accuracy/completeness.

  • Request deletion where appropriate (subject to legal/records obligations).

  • Ask questions or file a complaint with our Privacy Officer.

We’ll respond within the timelines set by law. We may ask for ID to verify your identity.
10) Children’s privacy
Our services are for adults and households. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 without parental consent.
11) Third-party links
Our site may link to third-party websites. Their privacy practices are their own; please review those policies.
12) Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on our site and, where appropriate, notified to customers.
